Why Do We Hate Selfies? | PBS Idea Channel
Despite being possibly the world's most annoying habit, selfies are undeniably a major part of modern visual language. They may be the lowest common denominator of the art of photography, but they are also a legitimate form of communication ("a picture is worth a thousand words" comes to mind). But maybe all the hate comes from a confusion about what selfies actually are! Is it possible they're not actually "photographs" but a totally different form of communication? Could they even be important and meaningful? Watch the episode to find out.
HOMEWORK: Finish setting up Blogger and take a Selfie and post it to your blogger account before next class. Please include your definition of a Selfie.
History of Photo Web Quest/Slide Show: Working in pairs, choose a topic randomly from Mrs. Bible. You will work with your partner to create 1 google slide to teach the class about your topic. You need to include an explanation of what it is. 3-5 images of either the topic, and/or the use of your topic. At least two sources where you found your information. We will share this next class.

August 25/28: History of Photo Web Quest/Slide Show: a few minutes to review/finish, then present to class.
Review how to file photos. Read from book "The Art of Photography" and fill out the worksheet. Open Photoshop and walk through the exercise on p. 49.
8.15/8.16 Who Are You? Today we will get to know each other a bit. Since this is a visual arts elective, let's do something artistic. Share shields in small groups (count off 1-8/9). To try and remember names, play "In Bob's pocket…with names" in these small groups.
Set Goals: Write down 1 thing you want to learn in this class on your goal bubble and one way you are going to achieve that goal. Cut it out, put your name & period on the back and turn it in.
8.17/8.18 What do you know? First let's review the syllabus/Infographic.
Infographic: a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. "a good infographic is worth a thousand words"
Play Photography Bingo. Pair off, then using your smart phones, find other groups that have the images you are looking for on your scorecard. First group to BINGO wins. Please remember this is not a critique. All our photography will improve throughout the year, so be kind.
Assignment: Answer the following & be ready to share:
Try to log onto the computers. Try to open Photoshop.
